The Benton
HarborSt. Joseph YMCA Family Center has been central to the health and
fitness of southwest Michigan for over 85 years. The YMCA is not a health club, but a
not-for-profit organization with a mission to put Christian principles into practice
through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all regardless of
faith, race, ability, or age. Hundreds of people depend on the YMCA for programs and
services, and no one is turned away because of an inability to pay.
Unlike many businesses and organizations, we are convinced that character counts,
so we build our staff, programs, and practices on the core values of honesty, caring,
respect, and responsibility. We believe our mission and values work to build strong kids,
strong families, and strong communities.
The Benton HarborSt. Joseph YMCA Family Center offers outstanding fitness
facilities, as well as more than 70 classes and programs for people of all ages. If you or
anyone in your family has a fitness-related interest, you will likely find it here! A
comprehensive listing of activities and programs appears on our home page.
YMCA activities take place in five areas:
The Cardio-Strength
Center is one of two primary areas devoted to adult fitness. The Center
features a 30 minute Nautilus strength training circuit and more than thirty modern
cardiovascular exercise machines. Ten TV monitors, cable television, and a VCR provide
members a choice of entertainment during a workout.
The Main Gymnasium and
Racquetball Courts are the centers for adult sports. Scheduled activities
include adult basketball, volleyball, and racquetball leagues, and members enjoy ample
open gym time.
The Multi-Purpose Room
is another primary area for adult fitness. The room houses an indoor track, a complete
weight room, a general aerobics floor, and a selection of cardiovascular exercise
machines. Nearly all of the YMCA's extensive selection of adult fitness classes are
conducted in the Multi-Purpose Room.
The YMCA's newest addition, the Kid's Gymnasium, hosts our youth activities. The gym
accommodates the YMCA's extensive dance and gymnastics programs, as well as the morning
nursery. Children and families also enjoy plenty of open gym time featuring games,
activities, and a transverse climbing wall!
The YMCA Pool
is the heart of an extensive aquatics program. Swim lessons and water exercise are offered
for every age group. Lap swimming is scheduled several times a day, with open and family
swims scheduled throughout the week. The pool is also home to the Dolphins, a competitive
swim team for young YMCA members.
