Building Blocks Preschool is a licensed preschool that
focuses on building the spirit, mind, and body of each individual. This dynamic program,
which runs from September through May, provides a developmentally appropriate learning
environment for children ages 2½ to 5. Our preschool is designed to enrich your child
through a variety of activities, including Spanish, Computer Science, Music, Sign
Language, and Swimming! And through creative gym activities, arts, crafts, story
time, and dramatic play, your child will make new friends, learn kindergarten readiness
skills, and build self-confidence! All classes will consist of age appropriate
activities. With the exception of the Angelfish class (age 2½), all preschoolers
must be toilet trained.
Curriculum:
The Building Blocks Preschool
maintains a student-teacher ratio of 6:1 for three-year-olds and 7:1 for four-year-olds. A
consistent daily routine provides a balance of small and large group activities, combined
with independent playtime for children. Classes follow weekly themes, incorporating
book-based activities, art projects, circle times, science activities, music, field trips
and special events. In every learning center we emphasize the core values or caring,
honesty, responsibility, and respect through our YMCA Character Counts program. Daily
access to the Ys 7812 sq. ft. gym allows for a variety of gross motor skill
activities. |
Enrichment Programs:
Music, Spanish, Sign
Language, Computers, and Swimming are all taught by instructors with extensive background
in their area of specialty!
|
| · |
The Spanish taught is
of the Mexican origin, and Mexican culture and celebrations will be highlighted. The
instructors will focus on numbers, letters, and basic words. |
| · |
Music instruction
focuses on fundamentals including singing, creating and playing rhythm instruments, and
movement activities. |
| · |
Children learn basic
American Sign Language through stories, songs, and activities. Basic words, numbers,
letters, and shapes will be the focus of the instruction. Children will be encouraged to
use their signing skills. |
| · |
Children receive
one-on-one guidance or are given independent work time in the computer lab. |
| · |
Swimming is an optional
companion program to our preschool classes. It's a great way to enhance your child's
self-help skills, fine and gross motor skills, coordination, and patterning. Participants
swim one day each week age 3 and 3½ classes swim on Tuesdays, and age 4 to 5
classes swim on Wednesdays. Lessons are given by YMCA-certified instructors and follow the
YMCA progressive swim programs. |
Parent Involvement:
Parents are encouraged to
work in partnership with teachers to enhance the social, emotional and cognitive
development of each child. A variety of volunteer opportunities exist that allow the
parent to be actively involved in the classroom, or to provide support services. We
welcome parents to visit our classes Monday through Friday from 9:00-11:30 a.m. |
